Suspense Films
Or thrillers as some people prefer to call them. Some of you may be wondering what the difference is between the suspense genre and the horror genre. After all, they’re often grouped together. Well, while both genres rely on tension and paranoia, suspense films USUALLY lack the macabre and supernatural elements often associated with the horror genre. So Night of the Living Dead = horror. Silence of the Lambs = suspense. Here are some things you can expect to see in suspense film trailers: psychological turmoil, eroticism, secret government organizations, conspiracies, people running, people out of breath, protagonists who seem crazy to everyone else around them, characters who know too much, assassins, jealous lovers, relentless antagonists, odes to Hitchcock, point of view camera shots, action scenes set in recognizable places, home invasion scenes, family unit being threatened, the art of murder, the art of covering up a murder, almost getting away with it, ripped from the headlines, terrified looks, and a crescendo of pulse-pounding music and action-heavy clips culminating with the title of the movie over black.
